"The Annual skateboarding competition at The Lloyds Big Three legendary skate spot in Bristol takes place in September, A Game of Skate, Ledge Tricks and finally the Big Three Jump, its huge!! Watch all the contestents throw themselves to land tricks for the prize money. Schaeffer attempts this jump for the first time ever.... But then the English weather beats everyone....."

Schaeffer Mclean, 8 year old skater...

Hey guys!  Schaeffer Mclean, 8 years old & already a skate LEGEND,  has just uploaded another vid of some awesome skateboarding action - filmed during June and July 2012 in London and Bristol. It was the wettest month of June since records began.......

Schaeffer's crew say "For Go Skateboarding Day 2012, Schaeffer was going to try Ollie as many boards as possible. Then, as usual in England it poured with rain so he didnt get to do it.....but here is the practice session he did last week. He nearly made it".

Pretty amazing for anybody, never mind someone who's only 8 years old - well done Schaeffer!

Legendary skateboarder Bob Burnquist lands the world’s first-ever “Christ Air” back flip during the North American debut of Nitro Circus Live at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on June 4^th.

Next in line was the inspirational wheelchair athlete from Las Vegas, Aaron ‘Wheelz’ Fotheringham, who made the crowd erupt when he landed a front flip off the Giganta ramp in front of his hometown.
Other memorable moments included the first-ever two rider mini bike combination jump, FMX rider Josh Sheehan attempting his first-ever double back flip, and a number of world first stunts with crazy contraptions thrown off the 50-foot Giganta ramp, including a drink cooler with wheels, a boogie board, a “Barbie” car, a side car BMX bike, and a number of back flips on kids’ tricycles.

Extreme Wheels 2010

Anyone local to us should head to Carterton this weekend, as Carterton Skate Park is hosting "Extreme Wheels 2010" on Saturday 14.08.10.  2009's event was a fantastic success, so let's hope that 2010 follows suit - & that the weather fairies are kind!!

Stephen Bates, skating for Leukemia Charity...

Just a heads up for anyone who hasn't heard, a student recovering from Leukemia is skating 200 miles for charity. 

Stephen says  "The reason I'm doing this is due to personally being affected by Leukaemia in 2006. At the end of my first year at University I had to take a year out for treatment and all I wanted to do is get back to Uni! Fortunately I did get back and had a good three years more there. Now it's time to give back for all the help I received.

The money you donate will go to Leukemia and Lymphoma Research, which affects people of all ages. This charity is the only UK charity that soley invests in research for blood cancers and has over 50 years experience. I experienced treatment intensely for over a year and 2 extra years of maintance treatment during my studies. This affects your everyday life and infections can be more serious during this time. Therefore if I can raise money to aid in research in finding a cure or reduce treatment time for future sufferers, then i'm there. Even if it means my legs are going to suffer for it.

The plan is to start on the 10th August and hopefully within 7 days will reach sunny Maidstone. The route is now planned, and will be going through Nottingham, Leicester, Market Harbourough, Northampton, Towcester, Dunstable, Luton, St Albans, Elstree, Camden Town, Brockley, Swanley, Wrotham and then finally Maidstone."

Skaiti - skaters raising money for Haiti

SMB were delighted to sponsor Keith O'Leary, who took part in Skaiti (a fantastic fundraising event for disaster relief in Haiti) on Saturday 10th April.  Skaiti was a 24 hour event in which 250 brave souls attempted to skate as far as possible in 24 hours, around Dunsfold Park in Surrey. 

Keith has survived to tell the tale & reported his progress to us today:

"Well, I managed 125 miles in total and had a fantastic time in the sunshine before taking a tumble at roughly 2am on Sunday. Stepping on a wheel in the darkness often results in a face plant.

My tent looked incredibly welcoming at that point, so I grabbed a little sleep before setting off again. The organisers, Jo, Jack, and Steve did an amazing job in putting on the event and looking after everyone. The Ceramic Bearings you supplied fared very well and I got some good feedback from other participants - especially regarding the cost price (Powell/Bones ceramics being a lot more expensive, and not commonly stocked).

I took a photo at the start of the event with my nice clean SMB T-shirt and hat. There's also one of me coming out of a speed tuck and looking far too camp for my liking (to save Keith's modesty, we promised not to show the "camp" picture!). There will be a few more emerging as people upload images to Facebook etc.

Skaiti - skaters raising money for Haiti

http://roundupbout.blogspot.com/ are advertising Skaiti - a twenty-four hour fundraising event for the victims of the Haiti earthquakes.

"When? Saturday April 10th at noon
Where? Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, Surrey - the famous Top Gear test track
Who? Anyone who skates - rollerskaters, inliners, longboarders and skateboarders

The aim is to raise as much money as possible to help the disaster relief in Haiti, whilst skating around the clock. All money raised will go to the charity Shelterbox, and it doesn't matter if you can't make all twenty-four hours of the event.

Camping is available on the site, and the runway lights will be switched on at night, so don't worry about skating in the dark!

Wheel Skates... the next big thing?

How do you fancy these in your awkwardly wrapped & somewhat misshapen Christmas stocking then folks?! These are wheelskates, "a pair of large wheels that have the skater's feet suspended below the axles enabling a smoother, more fluid skating experience that crosses boundaries into skiing and cycling". The large wheel & pneumatic tyre of Wheel-skates allow you to:

• gain and maintain momentum with less effort,
• greater stability and more manoeuvrability
• skate over rougher terrain or ski down grassy slopes
  or commute like a bicycle free of seat & handle bars

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCHAEFFER!!!

Since we last told you about his exploits, Schaeffer has been very busy - his Mum Eve tells us more:

"We went to Milan at half term and some of the footage is in the vid. We aren't doing King of the Groms this year, we will probably wait until he's a bit older, but meanwhile we have been skating all over. He just did a little rippers competion at the Boardroom, Leicester, last Sunday and he did really well, and won 3 prizes!"

Well done Schaeffer, we're really proud of you. We hope that you enjoy wearing your new SMB skate gear, which is winging its way to you very soon...
